I'm Karen - KD - Blakely and I believe life is better when you’re owned by a cat. And that you should never leave home without a book. I will be blogging primarily about books, writing, cats. art and travel. A bit about me: I am owned by three cats: the shy and reclusive 3 year old Phantom, the beautiful and gentle 3 year old Shadow - who has been stepped on more than once in a dark hallway - hence the name, and the mischievous and sometimes beastly 1 year old Dragon. I've read hundreds (maybe thousands) of books, been in various singing groups, create with watercolor and mixed media (though not particularly well), and love to travel. Those are things I love, but not who I am. Most of all, I am a writer. After reading Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time in fourth grade, I knew I wanted to be a writer. I refuse to show my early efforts (believe me, it's better that way), but after joining a fantastic writers group and participating in conferences and retreats, I'm thrilled to say I've achieved that goal. I have a middle grade/YA fantasy series, The Chimera Chronicles. These books plunge five friends into a realm of magic and monsters, separated from our world by a secret doorway that few can enter. What begins as an innocent exploration of a strange and fascinating land becomes a dangerous quest for answers. Coming June 28, 2019, I joined four other writer friends for a retelling of Beauty and the Beast — with a twist. In late 2019, Audrey Murphy — a story of ghosts, greed and redemption — will be available, followed by the first book in the Dark Seighly paranormal romance series — focused around a hidden town that’s been guarding a monstrous gateway for nearly 800 years.
